Mazzei Minute 11/8/25

Mike Mazzei here, Oklahoma’s next Governor. 

This week’s Mazzei Minute is a call to action. Because if you like paying taxes, you’re going to love Tulsa Mayor Monroe Nichols. 

He wants to jack up our sales tax by 20%, take that money, and throw it to the homeless. 28 million dollars a year. 

Democrats have the same solution to every problem — raise taxes and grow government. 

I have great sympathy for homeless people but more government spending is not the answer.  Despite the tens of millions we’ve already spent, Tulsa's homeless problem has only gotten worse. And everyone knows it. Now the Mayor wants a 20% tax increase?

As a hard working taxpayer, when was the last time you got a 20% pay raise?  If your answer is never, you’re not alone. Working men and women have shouldered the burden of inflation — huge price increases on everything over the past several years. The last thing we need is more taxes. 

We already have to pay taxes on our income. We have to pay payroll taxes for Social Security and Medicare.  We pay taxes on our property when we buy a home. Even if you don’t own your home, those taxes are built into your rent. Then, whatever money we have left, we have to pay a sales tax on every dime we spend.

Now, Tulsa's Mayor wants to take even more away from us. 

And who will it hurt the most? Low-income workers who will pay more for food, clothing, and basic necessities.

Democrats don’t care about working families. They care about growing government for their pet projects — projects that always make our problems worse.

I’m running for Governor to put an end to this madness.   

If you’re like me, you are fed up with the government spending money we do not have to get outcomes we do not want. 

There are proven, powerhouse economic models in no-income-tax states like Tennessee that create jobs, raise wages, and grow opportunity. Oklahoma can do the same — but only if we have the right leadership. 

Contact your city councilors and tell them to vote NO on the Mayor Monroe tax hike. 

And if you see one of my gubernatorial opponents, tell them to step out of their comfort zone, jump into this fight, and join me in opposing the Tulsa tax hike.
