Some good news this week! Mitch McConnell, the Republican Minority Leader in the U.S. Senate secured the all-important filibuster rule from power hungry Democrats hoping to drastically change our American form of government.
McConnell agreed to let Chuck Schumer run the day-to-day business of the U.S. Senate, even though Republicans and Democrats are tied at 50-50. This power sharing agreement forestalls the Democrats’ need to have Vice President Kamala Harris preside over the senate on a daily basis to settle all tied votes. In exchange, Democrat Senators Jim Manchin and Krysten Sinema have agreed to oppose any effort to repeal the time-honored Senate filibuster.
Fortunately, those crazy ideas we heard about during the campaign season won’t come to fruition. No statehood for the District of Columbia; no packing the U.S. Supreme Court and no Federal takeover of individual state election laws. Our founding fathers would be pleased!
